Palomar Mountain Planning Organization Minutes, 5/23/2015 Board Meeting minutes

Palomar Mountain Planning Organization Board Meeting

May 23, 2015 Initial meeting of the 2015-2016 PMPO Board, following the elections.

Board Members Present:

Terri Bailey, Glenn Borland, Robert Carlyle, Steve Clark, Donna Dose, George Evangelou, Brenda Fromlath, Elizabeth Getzoff, Bruce Graves, Sue Hanson, Michael Pique, Yvonne Vaucher, Michael Walsh.

Board Members Absent:

Heather Beer, Rosemary Johnston.

The PMPO Board meeting was convened about 1:00 PM May 23, 2015, following the Annual Meeting, at the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. The Treasurer's and Secretary's reports were deferred.

Election of Officers

The following were elected for one year terms:

Glenn Borland, Chair;

Michael Walsh, Vice-Chair;

and Michael Pique, Secretary. Rosemary Johnston has tentatively offered to serve as Treasurer; Michael Walsh has the box of treasurer's documents.

Newsletter preparation notes:

Susan Humason says that next year we should prepare for her a single file with all of the text, rather than separate articles. A single file is easier for her to proof-read before then breaking it up to work on layout. Bruce Graves suggests we use only "Boxholder" for all of the 92060 Palomar post office addresses, even for those resident boxholders on our mailing list. Mike Pique notes this is possible, but slightly complicates delivery to boxholders who prefer receiving their newsletter at an off-mountain address.

Gold Spotted Oak Borer:

Libby Getzoff says we have to be sure not to drop the ball on the GSOB. George Evangelou asks about banning firewood transport; Robert Carlyle says that's not enforceable, he's asked already. Steve Clark suggests the US Forest Service post warning signs along the South and East Grade roads, noting that getting permission to put signs within the highway right-of-way is sometimes hard. Brenda Fromlath thinks Vista Irrigation might allow signs along the lower East Grade, if we get the county involved. We should also put flyers and a sign up at the Lake Henshaw cafe and store. Robert Carlyle says that in Descanso, they've put up billboards. George Evangelou says we should invite Tom Scott to get his students up here to check trees near known infestations, possibly by paying stipends. Robert Carlyle says that's how they found the East Grade road infestation; a paid `dedicated kid' could be hired to check all around. Tom Scott can tell us where to get signs. Libby Getzoff asks if we can have a GSOB presentation at the Labor Day weekend picnic.

East County Magazine fire alerts:

Libby Getzoff notes that Barona Casino has discontinued funding the East County Magazine wildfire and emergency alerts. This is a very important service and she suggests donating to www.eastcountymagagine.org to keep it going.
